A new way of commenting online
uKoment’s purpose is to make highlighting and annotation of online articles friendly, efficient and collaborative.
It’s our belief that commenting in context has to and will come to the Internet, sooner or later. uKoment aims to contribute to achieve this.
“The idea was born a few years ago, from the frustration of not being able to make highlights and share them easily on the Internet”
We’re three guys based in Tunisia, Dubai and France who joined forces a few months ago and have been working hard to build uKoment and bring granular commenting to the Internet.
New possibilities
As a uKoment user you will have the ability to highlight and comment specifically each and every word, figure, sentence that catches your attention and make you react. When sharing, your friends, classmates or colleagues are directly taken to the highlight with your comment attached to it, so that they focus on what matters.
The ability to interact with content at such granular level opens a whole new set of possibilities:
- Show what really matters to you as you read. You won’t be just sharing “colorless” articles anymore, you’ll be sharing the way you read them, with your personal touches all over the place!
- No longer share long articles with classmates or colleagues but guide them with your highlights to the relevant information/parts, with your notes attached to them, hence increasing efficiency of information sharing
- Students, professors, journalists, bloggers will find a whole new way to engage with online articles and reports, comment, provide & receive feedback and share thoughts
Importantly, you will be able to manage privacy to make sure only the people you choose can see the content you want.
Granular commenting also provides a powerful tool to understand audience interaction and interest in the content at the granular level. Content owners can leverage this to produce a better and more engaging content.
What’s next
A lot more is coming soon, offering more ways to easily make highlights and notes on the Internet. This is what will keep us busy over the months to come (probably in order):
- adapt our web site for mobile so you can do the “work” from your phone (this should be imminent)
- boost our Chrome extension with new features so that you can highlight and comment directly on original articles, as you’re reading them
- add uKoment to Safari sharing options (iOS) so that you can make highlights and notes directly from original articles on Safari
- build a uKoment “button” that can be added by content owners to their articles so that you can do highlights and notes “natively” on original articles
- build a mobile app to enhance your mobile experience
So that’s the plan!
